Passive building

The "Bruxelles Environnement" and its new passive office building

In 2013, Brussels Environment, the Brussels Institute for Environment Management, will move into its new offices in a brand-new passive office building at Tour & Taxis. The construction is, with more than 16,000m² of office space, the biggest passive office building in Belgium and the second biggest in Europe.

The building is covered with photovoltaic panels and has large triple-glass windows. The building’s structure is optimised in order to consume as less energy as possible. That is made possible by several measures:
  • IBGE - New buildingOptimal use of natural light
  • Frequent use of stairs
  • Low-impact materials
  • Raw materials with a large life span
  • Green walls and roofs
  • Recycling collected rainwater on site
Apart from offices, this building will also have an ecocentre. This information and exhibition centre will give information about the environment to private and professional people and school groups.
