The name Tour & Taxis is - like the site that carries it – deeply embedded in history.
The first European postal service was founded by the family Von Thurn und Tassis : a famous dynasty that goes back to the 12th century.
It used to graze its horses on marshy fields next to the Brussel port. If today post travels by plain or by truck, in those times it was carried around by « postal horses » that were relayed in each town.
It was a revolutionairy system, founded by Frans von Tassis. His family kept the monopoly for postal services for 355 years.
